Anna has been sick this week, REALLY sick. Long story short last Sunday we knew she had a cold. By Wednesday she was getting close to the miserable. Wednesday night was pretty rough. I was very grateful for our nice rocking chair because I spent some quality time in it with Anna throughout the night. By Thursday afternoon I had called the doctor and we had an appointment for that day. We found out that Anna had an infection in one ear and RSV symptoms. We went home with a prescription for amoxicillin, ear drops to sooth the pain, saline solution to help suck her nose and were told to watch her breathing. Thursday night was much better. Friday morning though I noticed how quick and shallow her breathing was. I called the doctor and within a half an hour we were back at the doctor's office. The bad news started rolling at that point. She now had ear infections in both ears and needed breathing treatments with a nebulizer. She pretty much cried through all of that. http://mobiledose.blogspot.com/2009/03/so-its-to-be-torture.html We then were sent over to the hospital to get her "sucked out." Nothing breaks a mother or father's heart more than seeing your child pinned to a table and having a tube shoved up their nostrils and their poor little girl just screaming and crying. We then went home with our own nebulizer. By Saturday we found out that Anna does have RSV. We timed things tonight, it takes about an hour to do everything that we need to do. Twice a day we...
1. Feed her rice cereal.
2. Do a breathing treatment with the nebulizer.
3. Give her a dose of amoxicillin
4. Put ear drops in each ear.
5. Nurse her
(and a diaper change somewhere in there too)
She has been a super trooper. I guess when you become a mother you automatically become a nurse whether you like it or not. My heart goes out to single moms who have to do all this on there own, I don't know how I could have lived through this last week without Devin.
On a brighter note, we have introduced Anna to Cinderella this weekend. The breathing treatments aren't as bad when she has something to distract her. It is fun having her sit up and watch it as we get things ready and clean things up. She is pretty cute, even when she is sick.

Poor girl. I hope she's feeling better. And you're right, there's nothing like having a sick baby. It's the most helpless and frightening feeling in the world.
Poor thing. She has gone through more than most adults do in the past couple of days. Did they give you a mask for her treatments? It might help. Did you have to buy or are you renting your machine?
I hope she gets feeling better soon. Sounds like she is doing very good considering. RSV is so scary I am so glad we have never had to do that. Give her a hug for me.
I am so sorry. Breathing treatments are no fun. We are the proud owners of a nebulizer thanks to a son who has asthma. It is helpful but it does break your heart. The worst was when Noah was 3 and had pnemonia, and was in the hospital and he had to have breathing treatments every 2-4 hours. That was hard to watch... I hope Anna is feeling better.
i am so sorry little Anna has been sick! poor little thing! My heart goes out to you guys. I hope she bounces back quickly.
Ahh-- LOVE the sidestream nebs! They are so much faster and more efficient than the normal hospital ones. (Sidestream are all I use anymore for most of my meds.)
I agree with Kat - it might help to get her a pediatric nebulizer mask.
It sounds like it has been very stressful - you guys are in my prayers!
wow, I'm so sorry to hear she has RSV... just remember if you need anything, we're right across the street!
I'm sorry Anna is sick. I know how you feel. Keep me posted.
I hope Anna is feeling better. It seems you have been awesome parents in caring for Anna. She really is such a cute baby. I like the picture of her watching "Cinderella" on the couch.
Poor baby! It's no fun to be sick, but even worst is when your kids are sick!
We hope she feels better soon. Mickey Mouse can't wait much longer to meet her!
So sorry to hear about Anna. That sure is going around right now! Glad that you have such a supportive husband. Anna sure is a cutie, and it sounds like she is an amazing little girl.
I'm glad to hear that Anna is getting better. What a worry !!!
