Rex Lee Run 2010

Saturday was the Rex Lee Run.  Without a lot of detail.  I trained better for this race than I have for any race in years.  My time was not what I would have liked it to be.  But I did take 2nd place in my age division and 243rd out of 1526 runners.  The crazy thing is that even if I had run as fast as I would have liked to, I still would have taken 2nd place in my age division.  There is always the next race right? :)
The best part of the race was watching this little girl run.
Seriously, who cares what the time on the clock says.  She helps us all remember that running is about having fun.  Thanks Anna!!!  I really needed that reminder.

When It's Cold Outside

We had a really warm week a few weeks ago. It was so nice to go outside and to play. But we are in Utah and that means a week of warm weather followed by a week of cold weather.
To help us overcome our desire to be outside we have been doing a lot of fun things inside.
Anna loves to color. It doesn't last long and usually she spends more time organizing her crayons than actually coloring in her book. We color quite often at our house. To change things up we introduced Anna to the wonderful world of finger painting. Anna had a blast! As you can see she even tried to eat some of the paint. Don't worry, it was just flour, water, and food coloring.
We also spend lots of time driving our cars around the house. Dad is SO much better at making car noises than mom is. We made a road on the floor with masking tape one night. We tried to get her to drive the car on the road. Anna was not interested in staying within the lines at all.
And a new favorite is making blanket tents or blanket houses. The static makes Anna's hair awesome!
What do you like to do with your kids when it is cold outside? Any ideas for a 16-month-old?

Happy Birthday & Kisses

Anna loves her cousin Tommy.  They always have lots of fun together.  Last Monday was Tommy's 7th birthday.  We tried really hard to help Anna to say "Happy Birthday Tommy!"  This was as good as it got.  Not bad.
The second part of the video shows what Anna has been doing all week.  She walks around with the Friend or the New Era and just flips through the pages.  Her favorite place to "read" is on our bed.  It still shocks me how long she will look at one of these magazines.   She will watch TV for maybe a max of 10 minutes...maybe.  But with the Friend, she is good for at least 15 minutes.  She loves to look at the picture of Jesus and give him kisses.  It is really cute.

Modern Envelope Budget

Today we finally started our Modern Envelope Budget blog. We LOVE our budget and several friends have asked about it. We figured this would be a good way to share how we do it.

Saturday Sampler #8

I decided it was time to finish my quilt blocks for the month.  I have had the flag block and the orange and brown block done for quite a while.  The bird block has been done except for the stitching for the heart and the feet for the bird.  I guess today is the day when I found the 15 minutes I needed to finish the bird block off.  I feel  like I am getting better at applique, still not perfect, but better.
Enjoy!
